With the kids now back at school and the rush to get all of those last minute essentials out of the way, it’s time to get creative with those everyday lunchboxes. Coming up with new, tasty ideas for your little ones or even your work lunch can be difficult and it’s all too easy to stick to the same boring sandwich choices. Here at Stillorgan Village Centre, we’ve put together a few ideas to make those packed lunches delicious and very nutritious!

A healthy, well-balanced lunch should contain a starchy food like wholemeal bread, some pasta or rice, a protein food like meat, dairy or beans, a bit of dairy such as a creamy yoghurt or slice of cheese and those must-have fruits and vegetables.

Make lunch more interesting for your children by swapping the standard ham sandwich with a flavourful wrap. Easy to make and easy to munch while on-the-go, a wrap can be used to hold almost any of their favourite ingredients.

Spicy Chicken Wraps


  • 1 tbsp low fat Greek yoghurt
  • Quarter tsp of curry powder
  • Pinch of chilli powder
  • 85g cooked, chopped chicken breast
  • 1 wholemeal wrap
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Sliced Pepper


Wrap It Up!

This recipe couldn’t be simpler and children will love opening up their lunchboxes to this spiced delight. Adjust the level of spices to your child’s preference. Mix the yoghurt, spices and chicken to make the filling (why not use last night’s leftover roast chicken?). Spread the chicken filling onto your wrap and finish with your sliced veggies. Here’s where you can get creative with different vegetables like grated carrot or celery. Fold, roll up and cut into child-friendly sized pieces!

Make their lunch tasty and healthier by swapping out a packet of crisps for simple homemade popcorn or their bar of chocolate for mandarin segments dipped in melted dark chocolate.
